MN Ag in the Classroom Kits
At Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom, we know that your resources as educators are often limited. That’s why we are excited to offer these fun, FREE, opportunities to you and your classroom!
Types of Kits
There are two types of kits we offer:
- Ag Lesson Kits
- Loanable Kits
Ag Lesson Kits
What is an Ag Lesson Kit?
These are kits that are available in limited quantities (there are typically only eight kits available each month) to educators on a monthly basis. Kits are created for students at a particular grade range - for example K-2, 3-5, 6-8 or 9-12 - and meet Minnesota state standards. Monthly kits are given to educators who request them, typically on a first come, first served basis. This is not a subscription but instead allows educators to request kits on an individual basis for lessons that fit in with their classroom’s curriculum.
What is in an Ag Lesson Kit?
Our kits are based on the standards-based lessons available to you for FREE right here on our website in the Curriculum Matrix. In addition to a great lesson, your kit will also include materials you may need to execute this lesson in your classroom. Most kits have all of the materials but some kits might require that you obtain a few pieces like perishable items.
How do you get a Monthly Kit?
Monthly kits are available by contacting your Regional Curriculum Specialist typically on a first come, first served basis. If you aren’t already connected with your Regional Curriculum Specialist, see the map below and reach out - we’d love to hear from you!
Have to return an Ag Lesson Kit?
Each Regional Curriculum Specialist does this differently. Some give you the Monthly Kit to use for your classroom and then pick up any unused materials at the end of that timeframe. Some have you keep the Monthly Kit for future use or ask that you give it to a fellow educator to help spread the wealth!
Sharing Your Classroom’s Experience
We would LOVE to see how your classroom enjoys the Monthly Kits! Please feel free to share your experience on our social media platforms (on Facebook at @MNAgintheClassroom and Instagram at @mnagliteracy). In addition, we are constantly working to improve what we offer to educators but we cannot improve it if we don’t know what needs improving. After each kit is used, please head over to our Virtual Barn and provide feedback on your experience!
What is a Loanable Kit?
Loanable Kits are available on an ongoing basis for educators who request to borrow them. Loanable kits have more extensive equipment and/or materials in them and therefore are offered in very limited quantities. Because of this, we highly recommend connecting with your Regional Curriculum Specialist as early as possible to reserve the kit that interests you.
What Loanable Kits are available?
There is currently one loanable kit available but watch for three new loanable kits coming soon! Now Available: The Little Red Hen
Coming Soon: Hatching Science with Classroom Chicks | FoodMASTER: Vegetables
How long can you keep a Loanable Kit?
Your Regional Curriculum Specialist will work with you to determine the best schedule for your classroom!
Share Your Classroom’s Experience
